euro 2008

UEFA has announced the make-up of the expert team who will study the UEFA EURO 2008™ technical and tactical aspects in detail.

Nine technicians
The UEFA Technical Team at UEFA EURO 2008™ will consist of nine football technicians, all of whom have vast experience in the coaching and technical field. They will be split into two groups - one based in Switzerland and comprising Jerzy Engel (Poland), György Mezey (Hungary), Morten Olsen (Denmark) and Holger Osieck (Germany). The other group will be located in Austria, and consists of FIFA Technical Director Jean-Paul Brigger (Switzerland), Roy Hodgson (England), Gérard Houllier (France) and Jozef Vengloš (Slovakia). UEFA technical director Andy Roxburgh will lead the group\'s activities in both countries.

Analysing trends
The role of the UEFA Technical Team is not only to select the Carlsberg Man of the Match award winners. They will also decide on the Castrol Player of the Tournament and select the UEFA Team of the Tournament. The coaching group will also analyse tactical and technical trends, and provide an in-depth analysis of the footballing aspects of the competition in the form of a technical report, which can then be used by all coaching colleagues, including those involved in coach education.

Food for thought
One aim of the technical observers is to provide food for thought and debating points at the UEFA Conference for European National-Team Coaches in September in Vienna, with a view to reflecting on the UEFA EURO 2008™ tournament and providing a reference work for the years to come. All this is based on the coaches\' observations and backed by official data.

The UEFA Technical Team will select the award winners according to the following procedures:

Carlsberg Man of the Match
Supporters will have their say in electing the Man of the Match, as one vote will come from the users of euro2008.com. This vote will be taken into consideration by the Technical Team which will then have a further two votes. The Carlsberg Man of the Match will be announced shortly after the final whistle at each game.

Castrol Player of the Tournament
Users of the Castrol Performance Index website will be able to vote for their favourite player. The UEFA Technical Team will take this proposal into account before selecting the Player of the Tournament after the final match.

UEFA Team of the Tournament
The UEFA Team of the Tournament will consist of a squad of 23 players and will be selected by the UEFA Technical Team at the conclusion of the tournament. Both the Castrol Player of the Tournament and the UEFA Team of the Tournament will be announced on Monday 30 June.
