Strawberries
The fragrantly sweet juiciness and deep red color of strawberries can brighten up both the taste and aesthetics of any meal; it is no wonder they are the most popular berry fruit in the world. Although strawberries have become increasingly available year-round, they are at the peak of their season from April through July when they are the most delicious and most abundant.
While there are more than 600 varieties of strawberries that differ in flavor, size and texture, one can usually identify a strawberry by its red flesh that has yellow seeds piercing its surface, and the small, regal, green leafy cap and stem that adorn its crown. In addition to strawberries that are cultivated, there are also varieties that grow wild. These are much smaller in size, but feature a more intense flavor.

Simply Relax - Malta
One of the joys of being on The Maltese Islands is that, no matter where you are, you’re never far from one of the many magnificent beaches or secluded little coves.
There is a choice of both sandy and rocky beaches on the Islands, offering practical areas for the family, scenic spots for the romantics, serene areas for those in want of peace and spots for those who are interested in a bit of summer sports fun.
The Maltese coastal waters are generally clean and safe for swimming as there are no tides and the sea temperature averages around 22.8C in summer. Annual rainfall is low, averaging 578mm a year and the length of the dry season in summer is even longer than in neighbouring Italy.
Malta’s climate is strongly influenced by the sea so the Islands have a very sunny climate with a daily average of more than twelve hours of sunshine in summer and five to six hours in mid-winter.
Summers are hot but often mitigated by cooling sea breezes. June is the ideal time of year to come for ...

The 20 Unhealthiest Drinks in America
Americans have a drinking problem, and not the type you might think. As the authors of the best-selling book Eat This, Not That!, David Zinczenko and co-author Matt Goulding get e-mails all the time from readers who claim they eat carefully, they work out consistently, but they still can get the needle on the scale to budge. What gives? goes the collective, exasperated refrain from the stagnant dieter.
What most people don know is that the biggest roadblock between you and the body you want isn found at the end of a fork, but at the bottom of a glass. As a country we take in 21 percent of our daily calories from beverages and, according to the FDA, the average American takes in 82 grams of added sugars every day. Thats 20 teaspoons, which contribute an empty 317 calories to our already calorie-saturated diets.
Sure, some of that comes from soda, but even if youve traded regular Coke for diet, whole milk coffee drinks for low-fat lattes, and you barely touch the booze, you could ...
Motorola MOTO U9
The new Motorola MOTO U9 is small, lightweight and shiny: not my usual taste in mobiles, but I was pleasantly surprised. The MOTO U9 has a clamshell design with a unique outer OLED screen hidden beneath its shiny exterior; you wouldn even know it existed until you received your first text message. What is really amazing about this outer screen is the ingenious interface that allows you to control many of the phones functions, including playing music, using touch-sensitive buttons. You can even reply to text messages using a pre-defined, customisable list of replies, all without actually opening the phone. The feature that most impressed, though, was the predictive text writing: not only does it provide suggestions for finishing words, but it also offers to complete entire sentences that you have previously written, making messaging lightning-quick. The camera is only 2 megapixels, which by todays standards is quite poor, but the phones stylish design and ultra-cool music controls ...

Brown rice
In some parts of the world, the word to eat literally means to eat rice. All varieties of rice are available throughout the year, supplying as much as half of the daily calories for half of the worlds population.
The process that produces brown rice removes only the outermost layer, the hull, of the rice kernel and is the least damaging to its nutritional value. The complete milling and polishing that converts brown rice into white rice destroys 67% of the vitamin B3, 80% of the vitamin B1, 90% of the vitamin B6, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, 60% of the iron, and all of the dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. Fully milled and polished white rice is required to be enriched with vitamins B1, B3 and iron.

Sturdy, abundant and inexpensive, cabbage is a longstanding dietary staple throughout the world and is so widely cultivated and stores so well that it is available throughout the year. However, it is at its best during the late fall and winter months when it is in season.
Cabbage is round in shape with layers of superimposed leaves with the inner leaves often lighter in color than the outer leaves because they are protected from the sunlight. They belong to the Cruciferae family of vegetables along with kale, broccoli, collards and Brussels sprouts.

Jones never worried about Jets' flirtation with McFadden
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Thomas Jones heard all the talk and refused to let it bother him.
In the months following the New York Jets dismal 4-12 season, many fans and members of the media insisted running back Darren McFadden would be a perfect fit for a team needing a big-time playmaker.
Honestly, I never was concerned about it, the Jets starting running back said tersely.

After Oakland selected the Arkansas star with the fourth overall pick -- two spots ahead of the Jets -- many assumed Jones felt relieved.
No, he said, shaking his head. Who cares? Thats not my job. Ive been through it all before. My job is to play football. The coaches and the management, thats their job. Ill leave their job up to them, and Ill do my job.
Jones split time with Cedric Benson and the two were less than friendly, despite helping lead the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2007. A few weeks later, Chicago traded Jones to New ...
Garlic
Although garlic may not always bring good luck, protect against evil or ward off vampires, it is guaranteed to transform any meal into a bold, aromatic and healthy culinary experience.
Fresh, dried and powdered garlic are available in markets throughout the year, however, fresh varieties from California are in season from June through December.
Garlic is arranged in a head, called the bulb, averaging about 2 inches in height and diameter consisting of numerous small separate cloves. Both the cloves and the entire bulb are encased in paper-like sheathes that can be white, off-white or pinkish. Although garlic cloves have a firm texture, they can be easily cut or crushed. The taste of garlic is like no other-it hits the palate with a hot pungency that is shadowed by a very subtle background sweetness. While elephant garlic has larger cloves, it is more closely related to the leek and therefore does not offer the full health benefits of regular garlic.

Cranberries
A cousin of the blueberry, this very tart, bright red berry can still be found growing wild as a shrub, but when cultivated, is grown on low trailing vines in great sandy bogs. The American cranberry, the variety most cultivated in the northern United States and southern Canada, produces a larger berry than the wild cranberry or the European variety.
Cranberries have long been valued for their ability to help prevent and treat urinary tract infections. Now, recent studies suggest that this native American berry may also promote gastrointestinal and oral health, prevent the formation of kidney stones, lower LDL and raise HDL good cholesterol, aid in recovery from stroke, and even help prevent cancer.
Fresh cranberries, which contain the highest levels of beneficial nutrients, are at their peak from October through December, just in time to add their festive hue, tart tangy flavor and numerous health protective effects to your holiday meals. When cranberries short fresh season is ...
Fine Living: Premium Chocolates
The world of chocolate has its highs and lows, to be sure. And the solid milk-chocolate bunnies we all enjoyed as kids are fine for 7-year-olds, but your palate has evolved beyond swapping quality for quantity. While Ferrero Rocher and Godiva are fine for some, the true chocolate connoisseur knows that the best there is to offer cannot be found in any drugstore.
Thankfully, gourmet chocolate is more abundant -- and more available -- in today’s market than ever before. After all, if Americans spend about $13 billion a year on chocolate, why shouldn’t we spend it on the good stuff?
La Maison du Chocolat
Country of origin: France
Price: Truffles are around $80 per pound and boxes are as much as $200.

The Money Talk
Any relationship that makes it past the initial stages has to deal with one very sensitive issue and that issue is money. The tricky thing with money is that everybody has peculiarities about what it means and what it does to him/her. Every person tends to have money baggage depending on how their parents raised them and how much money is in their past, but also how they currently handle their cash and what they think their financial future will look like.
Money talk can become a necessity at different points in a relationship. If the two of you are planning a vacation together, buying major appliances together or if you’ve been arguing over the issue, the subject should definitely be breached. The only thing to remember is that when the money talk does come up, deal with it right away instead of putting it off. Any procrastination could lead to feelings of resentment or guilt toward you or your partner.
The dreaded money talk is such a sensitive issue -- even if both parties are ...
Apples
The warm scent and flavor of baking apples is a sure sign that fall is just around the corner. In the Northern Hemisphere apples are in season from late summer to early winter. However, many varieties are available year round because they have been either kept in cold storage or imported from the Southern Hemisphere.
Apples are crisp, white-fleshed fruits with red, yellow or green skin. They range in taste from moderately sweet and refreshing to pleasantly tart depending on the variety. The apple is a member of the rose family, with a compartmentalized core that classifies it as a pome fruit.

Hemp Oil
Hemp seed and oil has been called Nature’s Perfect Food for Humanity - a wealth of health for everyone.
The oil can be used as part of a nutritional programme to maintain and improve good health. With a pleasant nutty flavour, Hemp Seed Oil is ideal for use in salad dressings, mayonnaise, dips etc. It is not suitable for frying as this reduces the benefits.
Hemp has had a long-standing relationship with humanity; modern science reveals that it contains all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary for human life, as well as a rare protein known as globule edestins that is very similar to the globulin found in human blood plasma.
Four years after the Marijuana Tax Act passed in the US, a researcher writing for a 1941 edition of Science lamented the loss of access to the hemp seeds rare and important globule edistins; Passage of the Marijuana Law of 1937 has placed restrictions upon trade in hempseed that, in effect, amount to prohibition....”

Vienna
Did you know that Vienna possesses one of the most beautiful city railway networks in Europe? In the 1890s, Otto Wagner, one of Austrias most important architects, came up with the idea of making the Vienna transport system more than just a regular series of train stations - he wanted to create works of art. From the handrails to the doorknobs on the ticket booths, Wagner made sure that every minor detail was crafted to perfection.
Did you know that the most elegant horses strut their stuff in the centre of Vienna? The Spanische Hofreitschule has been going since 1572 and is one of the most famous riding schools in the world. Taking its name from the Spanish Lipizzaner, a breed of horse which was ridden in the area, the school is famous for the classic riding traditions of the Hohen-Schule. The grace of the horses can be seen during morning sessions or at special gala performances, although tickets are often sold-out months in advance.

Paul Smith Story
Our first reaction when we heard about Paul Smiths latest fragrance, the cryptically-named Story, was one of mild bewilderment; not only did the bottle not even feature Sir Pauls iconic stripes, but what did the title mean? Lemon/Limes
Although lemons and limes may not be what you would choose for an afternoon snack, we consider them as powerhouses when we want to bring out the flavor of other foods. While both are available throughout the year, lemons are in the peak of their season around May, June and August while limes are at their peak from May through October.
Lemons are oval in shape and feature a yellow, texturized outer peel. Like other citrus fruits, their inner flesh is encased in eight to ten segments.
Usually smaller than lemons, limes are oval or round in shape having a diameter of one to two inches with green flesh and skin. They can be either sour or sweet depending on the variety; however, sweet limes are not readily available in the United States. Papaya
Deliciously sweet with musky undertones and a soft, butter-like consistency, it is no wonder the papaya was reputably called the fruit of the angels by Christopher Columbus. Once considered quite exotic, they can now be found in markets throughout the year. Although there is a slight seasonal peak in early summer and fall, papaya trees produce fruit year round.
Papayas are spherical or pear-shaped fruits that can be as long as 20 inches. The ones commonly found in the market usually average about 7 inches and weigh about one pound. Their flesh is a rich orange color with either yellow or pink hues. Inside the inner cavity of the fruit are black, round seeds encased in a gelatinous-like substance. Papayas seeds are edible, although their peppery flavor is somewhat bitter. The fruit, as well as the other parts of the papaya tree, contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins. This enzyme is especially concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe. Papain is extracted to make ...

RED OR BLOODSHOT EYES
What May Be Causing It?
Typically, it’s allergies. If you only have it at certain times of the year, it’s probably a seasonal allergy to outdoor pollens. If it’s an ongoing, year-round problem, it’s more likely an indoor allergen—dust mites, animal dander, mold.
How Can I Get Some Relief?
If it’s just seasonal, try over-the-counter allergy eye drops like Naphcon-A.
