RASPY VOICE, CRACKLING VOICE
What May Be Causing It?
Mucus accumulating on the vocal cords causes your voice to crack, or sound raspy or rough. The cause could be infection or allergies. One way to tell: If you have other allergy symptoms along with the raspy throat, it\'s likely your allergies are causing the throat symptoms, too.
How Can I Get Some Relief?
Try longer-acting, non-sedating, over-the-counter antihistamine medicines such as Claritin or Zyrtec. If the post-nasal drip is heavy, a combination antihistamine-decongestant (Claritin-D, Zyrtec-D) would help more.
Do I Need to See a Doctor?
No, if over-the-counter medicines do the trick for you. Exception: If you have chronic (ongoing) raspy throat, or if over-the-counter medicines don\'t help, see a doctor. You may have an infection.
