Cabbage
Sturdy, abundant and inexpensive, cabbage is a longstanding dietary staple throughout the world and is so widely cultivated and stores so well that it is available throughout the year. However, it is at its best during the late fall and winter months when it is in season.
Cabbage is round in shape with layers of superimposed leaves with the inner leaves often lighter in color than the outer leaves because they are protected from the sunlight. They belong to the Cruciferae family of vegetables along with kale, broccoli, collards and Brussels sprouts.

Boost your own distance and durability with Vijay Singh's golfer's workout
Vijay Singh spends lots of time in the public eye -- contending for titles nine wins last year, accepting checks nearly $11 million in 2004, and battling Tiger Woods for the worlds number-one ranking.
But its his behind-the-scenes training program on the range and in the gym that keeps him on top of the game at age 42. Singhs high-intensity regimen features twice-a-day workouts with golf-specific moves that hone his physical, mental, and tactical game.
At this age, Im the strongest Ive ever been in my life, he says. The idea about playing golf used to be, ‘Hey, you don need muscles, theyll interfere with the golf swing. In this day and age, the golf game has evolved into something totally different -- who hits it the farthest, who lasts the longest. You can do that by just hitting golf balls. You have to do it by working out, getting strong.
Singhs trainer, Joey Diovisalvi, C.S.C.S., designs workouts to focus on rotational power and flexibility. The following three ...
IRRITABILITY, ANGER, CRANKINESS
What May Be Causing It?
Allergies go beyond nose, eyes, ears, and throat, and have systemic whole-body symptoms. The histamine and chemical mediators that are released in the allergy system have effects on the rest of the body, brain, and central nervous system. Symptoms can include fatigue, body aches, sleep disruption, decreased productivity at work, headache, and other symptoms. You may feel like you have the flu. Surveys show well over half of allergy patients say their allergies leave them miserable, irritable, and tired.
How Can I Get Some Relief?
Try over-the-counter allergy medicines—and start early. Don wait until you
e feeling really miserable; nip it in the bud, when the symptoms are smaller and more manageable.
Do I Need to See a Doctor?
Yes, if you don improve after 5 to 7 days on over-the-counter medicines. There are other things your doctor can do at that point, and you should not have to suffer in silence.

Jones never worried about Jets' flirtation with McFadden
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Thomas Jones heard all the talk and refused to let it bother him.
In the months following the New York Jets dismal 4-12 season, many fans and members of the media insisted running back Darren McFadden would be a perfect fit for a team needing a big-time playmaker.
Honestly, I never was concerned about it, the Jets starting running back said tersely.

After Oakland selected the Arkansas star with the fourth overall pick -- two spots ahead of the Jets -- many assumed Jones felt relieved.

Jones split time with Cedric Benson and the two were less than friendly, despite helping lead the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2007. A few weeks later, Chicago traded Jones to New ...

Papaya
Deliciously sweet with musky undertones and a soft, butter-like consistency, it is no wonder the papaya was reputably called the fruit of the angels by Christopher Columbus. Once considered quite exotic, they can now be found in markets throughout the year. Although there is a slight seasonal peak in early summer and fall, papaya trees produce fruit year round.
Papayas are spherical or pear-shaped fruits that can be as long as 20 inches. The ones commonly found in the market usually average about 7 inches and weigh about one pound. Their flesh is a rich orange color with either yellow or pink hues. Inside the inner cavity of the fruit are black, round seeds encased in a gelatinous-like substance. Papayas seeds are edible, although their peppery flavor is somewhat bitter. The fruit, as well as the other parts of the papaya tree, contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins. This enzyme is especially concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe. Papain is extracted to make ...
How to Have a 1-Night Stand
Heres what I remember about the best one-night stand of my life: everything but his name. He was a bartender-slash-actor who rode a beat-up motorcycle, but I didn find that out until after his jeans came off. It started in a bar. He sat down next to my girlfriend and me -- we were having a giggly girls night out -- stared in the other direction, and didn say a word.
After 10 minutes, he asked if I would watch his stuff while he went outside to make a call. When he came back, he grimaced like De Niro and thanked me very politely. By that point, I was already curious about whom he had called, what was in his faded leather bag, and why he wouldn smile. So I asked if he was having a bad day. Within a couple of hours, we were naked in bed together. And then he was gone.
To this day, I have to admire how smooth he was, because great one-night stands are tough to pull off. Plenty can go wrong between the first long look and the next-day e-mail. This is what you need to know to do ...

Why We Fight DVD
More than three years after its first appearance at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury prize, documentarian Eugene Jarecki’s polemic against the American way of war at last makes it to DVD in this country.
Jarecki’s film attempts to map the influence of big business on US foreign policy. It takes, as its starting point, President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s warning, in his 1961 farewell address, about what he called “the military-industrial complex”: the alliance of military professionals, arms industry executives and politicians who together stand to benefit most from continued overseas military activity.
This is a partisan history of the second half of the American century and the beginning of this one, but some facts are indisputable: since WWII, the US has lurched from one conflict to another. Our closest ally really is an exceptionally bellicose nation.
To hear Jarecki and many of his interviewees tell it, this aggression is motivated by the greed and ...
Drink Yourself Skinny
No calorie counting, no carb watching. For half a century, meal-replacement shakes have been a no-brainer way to drop pounds. Why? They work
For Rob Nager, the epiphany occurred at Abercrombie & Fitch. He was picking through a stack of cargo pants and asked a clerk if they were available in a 42-inch waist. Dude, the kid sneered, we don make pants that big.
Nager, 38, faced a choice. He could ask the little weasel to step outside, or he could do something about his 250-pound frame. He opted for peace and a new waistline.
He tried Weight Watchers, then Atkins. Both plans helped him slim down, but the flab always returned. Finally, Nager tried a weight-loss strategy thats been around since TVs were black-and-white; a strategy so old-school that one of the studies showing that it works went on for a decade. His throwback approach: meal-replacement beverages MRs, in the weight-loss world. Nager just said no to solid food. Instead, he quaffed shakes in place of meals, eventually ...

Exotic Rides: Lexus IS F
In the not-so-distant past, there was a time when the Toyota Motor Corporation’s amenity-laden American affiliate, Lexus, was heavily scrutinized -- not for the grade of the vehicles produced, as most car manufacturers are, but for the catalog itself. This barrage of criticism was spurred by the complete absence of a single performance model rolling off of Lexus assembly lines.
Enter the Lexus Intelligent Sport series -- code name: IS. Although the first two generations of 200/300 and 250/350 were well received and a formidable foray into the arena of high-output luxury sedans, rivals like Infiniti, Mercedes, Acura, and specifically BMW were beefing up their offerings to previously unheard of proportions, putting the heat on Lexus to remain competitive. And Lexus took on the challenge with gusto -- thank the vehicular lords.
If the IS 430 prototype was to serve as any indication of Lexus performance capabilities, not even that could prepare us for the unveiling of the supremely ...
Williamson working on improving hands with new team
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Receiver Troy Williamson was the last player on the field during minicamp Saturday, spending extra time with his position coach.

After three disappointing seasons in Minnesota, WR Troy Williamson is looking forward to being a part of a revamped Jaguars receiving corps.
He wasn doing any speed drills. He wasn working on getting off the line of scrimmage. And he wasn running routes.
He was catching passes -- the thing that haunted him in Minnesota and caused him to seek a fresh start with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But guess what? Williamson caught them all. In fact, he has caught just about everything thrown his way during Jacksonvilles two-day camp and since the team began offseason workouts last month.
Its just a big weight lifted off him, all that pressure, receivers coach Todd Monken said. Its still early, but weve been pleasantly surprised.
The Jaguars traded a sixth-round draft pick for Williamson, the seventh overall pick in the 2005 ...

Golfing With The Boss
Sooner or later, youll find yourself strolling the fairways with the very man you spend 51 hours a week trying to avoid: your boss. These tips will help you be an engaging, affable golf partner whos still employed after the back nine.
Do you suck?
If you usually spray drives onto adjacent highways, warn your boss beforehand or itll be an annoying surprise. Two things will help you stay respectable. First, use a 3-wood on tee shots; its easier to hit straight than a driver. Second, when gauging a putt, mime tossing the ball into the hole; then swing the putter the same distance you moved your arm.
Don spare him
Lousy golfers despise weenies who show their pity by underplaying, so don worry about coddling his ego. Go out there to tear him up. He won respect you unless you try to beat him.

Indiana Jones 4
Who? Harrison Ford old, Shia LaBeouf greasy, Karen Allen mumsy, Cate Blanchett bobbed, Ray Winstone Ray Winstoney
Background: Close to twenty years, it took. Nearly two full decades, apparently, to perfect a script. To gather its peerless troupe of main players, to synchronise impossibly busy schedules and to hone a suitably astonishing final chapter to one of the greatest film franchises ever. Then 79 filming days to commit a genuine world cinematic event to celluloid: the fourth Indiana Jones movie. And what do we get? We’ll tell you. CGI gophers with surprised expressions, that’s what. Infantile, clunking dialogue. Green-screen sub-XBox action sequences. Elderly people kissing. The only human being ever to survive a nuclear detonation at point-blank range. Later, CGI monkeys with expressions. And your worst nightmares confirmed – aliens and flying saucers. Yes, it’s worse than you could possibly comprehend. A more stultifying disappointment, arguably, than The Phantom Menace. ...

Seduction, Fast and Easy
Jack remembers the moment vividly. His fiancée, Tamara, pulled the sheet over her head, afraid to face him. She blurted it out: Jack, I don come when we do it.
His head spun. Theyd been having sex for 2 years. She seemed, well, satisfied. To his--and her--credit, they talked about it; they didn let this bombshell wreck their relationship. And they tried everything: vibrators, romantic weekends, oral sex--until my jaw ached, Jack says.
After a month of effort, he came to my office, desperate and distraught, not sure what to try next.

Im far—far—from a vegetarian, but what rankled me about the big reveal was; heres another industrial behemoth being sneaky about their products. I don like sneaky—especially when it costs consumers hard-earned dollars. And debit cards are some of the sneakiest little devils in the banking biz.

College Sex Rule 1: Claim a new campus
Consider the cafés, library nooks, and grassy quads where the average American college student spends most of the day. These public spaces foster a sexual vibe by design.

Both the physical comfort of a space and the sense of belonging put you at ease. So student lounges, flower-filled quads, coed dorms -- these settings are all designed to encourage intimacy and exclusivity.

Brady recovered from Super Bowl loss, ankle injury
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady joked on Saturday about the lingering effects of his ankle injury from late last season.
“The ankle feels great and I’ve been able to do pretty much everything that I normally do, the NFLs Most Valuable Player told Patriots.com following the second day of the three-day mandatory minicamp.
I’m still slow, I can’t jump and I don’t lift very much. That hasn’t changed,” he said with a smile.
Brady, who turns 31 in August, first injured his ankle against San Diego in the AFC Championship Game. News of the injury broke when he was first photographed in New York wearing a protective boot two weeks before the Super Bowl.

Cranberries
A cousin of the blueberry, this very tart, bright red berry can still be found growing wild as a shrub, but when cultivated, is grown on low trailing vines in great sandy bogs. The American cranberry, the variety most cultivated in the northern United States and southern Canada, produces a larger berry than the wild cranberry or the European variety.
Cranberries have long been valued for their ability to help prevent and treat urinary tract infections. Now, recent studies suggest that this native American berry may also promote gastrointestinal and oral health, prevent the formation of kidney stones, lower LDL and raise HDL good cholesterol, aid in recovery from stroke, and even help prevent cancer.
Fresh cranberries, which contain the highest levels of beneficial nutrients, are at their peak from October through December, just in time to add their festive hue, tart tangy flavor and numerous health protective effects to your holiday meals. When cranberries short fresh season is ...
Golf Tips from Camilo Villegas
Last September, Camilo Villegas was driving his black, 500-horsepower Porsche Cayenne Turbo to his Atlanta hotel after a PGA tournament when he saw flashing lights behind him. He pulled onto the shoulder of the road and waited as a policeman sauntered up to his window.

Officer, I just got off the golf course. I was playing in a tournament, replied Villegas.
So youve had a few drinks.
Officer, like I said, I just got off the course.
Thats exactly what I mean, countered the cop. You golf, you drink. Thats what its all about.
After Villegas explained he was a professional golfer, the officer relented and let him off the hook for creeping above the speed limit. I thought that was pretty funny, says Villegas. Lots of people still don think of golf as a sport.

GMC Acadia SLT AWD
Listen up. GMC, which dates to 1909, was formerly GMC Truck - appropriate, since thats what this General Motors division made: trucks and buses. The story goes back even farther, to the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, one of Americas first commercial-vehicle concerns, established in 1901 by Max Grabowsky and sold to GM in 1909. So if you sort of forgot about GMCs dropping the Truck part on becoming part of the Greater Pontiac Co-Prosperity Sphere in 1996, don worry. We did, too.
CarAndDriver.comIn any case, the change was fortuitous, because the Acadia is not a truck. Not in the traditional body-on-frame truck sense. It looks sorta like a truck, and the EPA calls it a truck, but the bones are front-drive unibody. They call it the Lambda architecture, designed for GMs big new front-drive utility vehicles. The result is one of those new-breed rides we call crossovers - neither car nor truck, and a first for GMC.
