WOODFORD RESERVE COCKTAIL
MINT JULEP
50ml Woodford Reserve
Crushed ice
2 heaped teaspoons castor sugar
10-12 mint leaves
HOW TO MAKE IT
Pour the sugar and a splash of Woodford into a large glass (preferably a julep cup). Crush the mint with the end of a rolling pin and add to the mix, followed by the ice and the remaining bourbon. Stir and garnish with sprigs of mint and a straw so short that the drink is practically a nosebag.
THE VERDICT
With the 134th meet taking place on 3 May, the Kentucky Derby is the longest-running event in the American sporting calendar, and the mint julep is the official beverage. Woodford Reserve is brewed in Versailles, Kentucky (not France), and since 2006 has offered a limited-edition $1,000 mint julep cup, with proceeds going to charity. Containing two teaspoons of sugar, the julep tastes almost as sweet as winning - fill out your \"trifectas\" wisely and you\'ll be able to compare the two.
